In a powerful display of community service and humanitarian commitment, the Pakistani Canadian Cultural Association of Alberta (PCCA Alberta) has announced a special blood donation campaign in partnership with Canadian Blood Services, inspired by the values of sacrifice, compassion, and service associated with Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions.

The initiative is scheduled for June 13, 2026, at the Canadian Blood Services donor centre located in Penn West Plaza, downtown Calgary, where registered volunteers and community members will donate blood to help strengthen Canada’s lifesaving blood supply. The Calgary donor centre serves thousands of patients annually, while Canadian Blood Services continues to encourage new donors to support the country’s growing healthcare needs.

Organizers say the campaign reflects the timeless message of Karbala, emphasizing selflessness, humanity, and helping those in need regardless of faith, ethnicity, or background. Community leaders believe that transforming remembrance into action through blood donation is one of the most meaningful ways to honor the legacy of Imam Hussain (AS).

The event is being coordinated by PCCA Alberta (Pakistani Canadian Cultural Association of Alberta), a community organization that has regularly participated in charitable, cultural, and humanitarian activities across Alberta. The association is encouraging members of the Pakistani, Muslim, and broader Canadian communities to take part in the initiative and contribute to saving lives through voluntary blood donation.

According to organizers, the campaign has been led by community volunteers including Asif Anwar and Tanveer Tai, who have been actively involved in mobilizing participants and coordinating registrations for the group appointment. The organizers have emphasized the importance of advance registration to ensure smooth scheduling and maximum participation.

Canadian Blood Services, the national organization responsible for managing the blood supply in all Canadian provinces and territories except Quebec, has repeatedly highlighted the ongoing need for blood donors. The organization continues to seek new donors across the country to help meet patient requirements and maintain a stable national blood inventory.

Community representatives noted that blood donation is one of the highest forms of public service because a single donation can potentially help multiple patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, emergency trauma care, and other critical medical procedures. By participating in this campaign, donors will not only support Canada’s healthcare system but also reinforce the universal values of compassion and sacrifice that Imam Hussain (AS) symbolized.

The organizers expect strong participation from Calgary’s Pakistani-Canadian community, with many families and young volunteers expressing interest in joining the campaign. They believe the initiative will further strengthen community engagement while promoting awareness about the importance of regular blood donation.

As preparations continue, community leaders are urging eligible residents to register, donate, and become part of a lifesaving effort that combines faith-inspired service with practical humanitarian action. The campaign stands as a reminder that acts of generosity and compassion can make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and families across Canada.
