CALGARY, Alberta — The Bab-ul-Hawaij Islamic Centre of Calgary has announced its program for the observance of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), on the 10th of Muharram 1448 AH.
According to the announcement, the Ashura procession and religious gathering will take place on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Bab-ul-Hawaij Islamic Centre of Calgary, located at 3025 12 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 7J2.
The centre has invited members of the community to participate in the annual observance, which marks one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar. The day commemorates the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain (A.S.), his family members, and companions during the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.
As per the schedule released by the organizers, the Ashura day procession will begin immediately after Zuhrain prayers at 1:39 p.m. Participants will gather at the Islamic Centre before proceeding on the designated route.
A Majlis-e-Aza (mourning gathering) is scheduled to commence at 2:00 p.m., where speakers will highlight the message of Karbala, the values of justice, sacrifice, faith, and resistance against oppression as demonstrated by Imam Hussain (A.S.).
Following the gathering, the main mourning procession (Juloos) will begin at 3:30 p.m. from the centre. Organizers have stated that the procession will conclude with the recitation of Ziyarat and Sham-e-Ghariban observances, marking the tragic aftermath of the events of Karbala and honoring the suffering endured by the family of Imam Hussain (A.S.).
The announcement further states that participants are requested to follow the designated route and cooperate with organizers and volunteers to ensure the event is conducted safely and respectfully.
Bab-ul-Hawaij Islamic Centre officials have encouraged community members from Calgary and surrounding areas to attend and take part in the commemorative activities. The centre emphasized that the annual Ashura observance serves as an opportunity to remember the timeless message of Imam Hussain (A.S.), whose stand for truth, dignity, and justice continues to inspire millions around the world.
