Construction of the new event centre at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa is making progress, with the first major roof trusses now installed as part of the city’s ambitious Lansdowne 2.0 redevelopment project.
The City of Ottawa has released new photographs showing the steel roof structure taking shape on the southern side of the facility, marking another important milestone in the construction of the new arena in the Glebe neighbourhood.
According to the city, construction crews began installing the event centre’s steel framework above the concrete foundation and concourse in October. The first roof trusses were also successfully installed during the month, with additional work scheduled throughout November.
Each roof truss measures approximately 55 metres in length and is transported to the construction site in three separate sections. Workers assemble the sections on-site before using a mobile crane to lift the completed structures into position.
The installation process will continue across the event centre as construction crews gradually complete the steel framework surrounding the concourse.
The city says the structure will continue to take shape throughout November, with roof trusses being installed in sections as different parts of the building are completed.
Another important construction milestone involves excavation work for the facility’s loading dock, which is now nearly complete. This will allow crews to begin foundation work in the final section of the event centre in the coming weeks.
Weekend Construction Work Planned
The City of Ottawa has also confirmed that construction crews will work on weekends during November to maintain progress on the project.
Weekend activities will take place within the permitted hours under Ottawa’s Noise Bylaw. Construction work is allowed between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturdays and between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sundays.
Residents and businesses in the surrounding area should also expect occasional truck movements as construction materials and equipment are transported to and from the site.
According to the city, construction vehicles will continue using the designated hauling road behind the South Side Stands, accessing Bank Street through Queen Elizabeth Place and Wilton Crescent.
Officials have advised residents to anticipate intermittent construction-related traffic as the project advances.
Major Components of Lansdowne 2.0
The Lansdowne 2.0 redevelopment represents a $418.8 million investment aimed at transforming the existing sports and entertainment district into a larger residential, recreational and commercial destination.
The project includes construction of the new event centre, replacement of the north-side stands at TD Place and two residential towers containing a combined 770 housing units.
The new event centre is expected to accommodate approximately 5,850 seated spectators, with capacity increasing to 6,600 for hockey games and up to 7,000 people for concerts.
The development is designed to provide Ottawa with an updated venue for sporting events, live entertainment and major community gatherings while modernizing the wider Lansdowne Park area.
Construction officially began in December 2025, and the new event centre is scheduled for completion in 2028.
As steel installation continues and excavation work approaches completion, the latest progress photographs offer a clearer picture of how the new facility will look as it rises above the existing Lansdowne site.
The coming months will be important for the project as crews move forward with the structural framework, roof installation and foundation work required to bring Ottawa’s new entertainment venue closer to completion.
