Two Central Alberta men arrested in Oyen after fleeing police, multiple charges laid

Two men from central Alberta are facing multiple charges after attempting to flee police in Oyen, following a report of suspicious activity on private property.

According to Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), officers responded on April 20 to a complaint from a resident who reported two individuals unlawfully उपस्थित on her property. Upon arrival, the suspects fled on foot but were quickly apprehended with assistance from neighbouring detachments, Alberta Sheriffs, and local residents.

Stolen vehicle, weapons and drugs recovered

During the investigation, police seized a range of items believed to be linked to criminal activity, including:

• A truck reported stolen from Stettler
• A loaded sawed-off shotgun
• Jaws of life equipment
• A slip tank
• Suspected methamphetamine and cocaine
• Various break-and-enter tools and stolen property

Authorities say the discovery points to potential involvement in multiple property crimes across the region.

Multiple charges laid against both suspects

A 33-year-old man from Stettler has been charged with 13 offences. He has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on June 24, 2026, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Hanna.

The second suspect, a 35-year-old man from Lacombe, was initially wanted on outstanding warrants issued by the Lacombe Police Service. He now faces 15 additional charges, including:

• Break and enter to a residence
• Mischief over $5,000
• Possession of stolen property over $5,000
• Possession of controlled substances

Following a judicial interim release hearing, he has been remanded in custody and is set to appear in court on May 1, 2026.

Ongoing investigation

Police have not ruled out further charges as the investigation continues. Authorities are also working to determine whether the suspects are connected to other incidents in central Alberta.

The RCMP is reminding residents to report suspicious activity promptly, noting that community cooperation played a key role in the swift arrests.
