A British Columbia father has shared the devastating story of how his teenage daughter was allegedly groomed online by the extremist network known as 764, a decentralized group linked to disturbing and violent content targeting young people.

The father, Jason Sokolowski, says his daughter Penelope was a bright, creative teenager who enjoyed art, amusement parks, and building digital worlds through online games such as Minecraft and Roblox. He described her as someone who “saw beauty in almost everything,” and said she spent much of her time expressing creativity online.

Sokolowski explained that he and the child’s mother believed they were taking appropriate steps to ensure her safety in the digital space. He said they used monitoring tools and maintained involvement in her daily online activity, hoping to protect her from potential risks.

Despite these precautions, he said her behavior gradually began to change over time. Her school performance declined, she withdrew from education, and her emotional health deteriorated significantly. According to Sokolowski, the situation escalated to self-harming behaviour that required medical attention and therapy.

He recalled discovering injuries on his daughter and said the family sought professional help, including hospital care, as concerns about her mental health increased.

Sokolowski later came to believe that his daughter had been targeted and manipulated by individuals associated with the online 764 network. According to him, the group operates across gaming and social media platforms and is known for exploiting vulnerable young users.

He alleges that his daughter was coerced into harmful actions, including self-injury, and was psychologically manipulated by individuals who gained her trust online. He further claims that the harassment escalated to disturbing levels, including pressure to harm family pets.

Sokolowski said he was shocked to receive video material showing abusive behaviour, which he believes was circulated by members of the group targeting his daughter.

He also described repeated suicide attempts that he believes were influenced and encouraged by the online environment she had been drawn into.

The case comes amid growing concern in Canada over online radicalization and youth exploitation. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has previously warned about the 764 network, describing it as a decentralized online group that targets minors through gaming platforms and social media spaces.

Authorities recently confirmed that a 26-year-old man from Quebec is facing terrorism-related charges linked to the promotion of violent and disturbing content associated with the group.

The RCMP says investigations into the network remain ongoing as law enforcement agencies continue to examine its reach and impact on vulnerable users, particularly young people.

Sokolowski says his family’s experience has left them devastated, describing the situation as an unimaginable ordeal that unfolded largely online and went unnoticed until it was too late.

Officials continue to urge parents to stay alert to changes in children’s online behaviour and to seek help if signs of exploitation, self-harm, or distress appear.
