Overseas Kashmiri Community Stages Peaceful Protest in Calgary, Calls for Protection of Civilian Rights

CALGARY, Alberta: Members and supporters of the Overseas Kashmiri community held a peaceful demonstration in Calgary to draw international attention to the ongoing public rights movement in Kashmir and what they described as serious concerns over fundamental human rights and the treatment of peaceful protesters.

The demonstration brought together members of the Kashmiri diaspora who said they had gathered to express solidarity with people in the region and to amplify their concerns before the international community. Participants emphasized that their campaign was intended to remain peaceful and focused on human rights, justice and the protection of civilian freedoms.

According to the protesters, the public rights movement has continued for more than 95 days, while more than 100 peaceful demonstrators have allegedly faced violence and mistreatment. Speakers at the gathering expressed concern over what they characterized as continued silence and a lack of an effective response from the authorities.

The Calgary-based community called for an immediate end to the use of force, firearms and violence against unarmed civilians. Protesters said disagreements between authorities and citizens should be addressed through peaceful dialogue and democratic mechanisms rather than through the use of force.

A major concern raised during the demonstration was the reported restriction of internet and communication services. Participants urged authorities to restore unrestricted access to communications, arguing that people should be able to communicate with their families, obtain information and remain connected with the outside world.

The demonstrators concluded by emphasizing a message of solidarity with the people of Kashmir and calling upon the relevant authorities to address public grievances through dialogue and peaceful engagement.

The Calgary community members said that peace, justice and fundamental human rights are universal principles that should be protected for every individual, regardless of nationality, political affiliation or geographical location.

For the Overseas Kashmiri community, the demonstration represented an effort to ensure that the concerns of people in Kashmir continue to receive attention beyond the region and that calls for peaceful dialogue and respect for fundamental rights remain part of the international conversation.
