Calgary: Calgary police have laid a total of 98 charges against two men following an investigation into a series of mailbox break-ins across the city’s northeast.
Suspects arrested during early-morning incident
Officers responded at حوالي 2:30 a.m. on April 21, 2026, to reports of two individuals actively breaking into community mailboxes in the Skyview area.
With assistance from the police helicopter unit, HAWCS, officers quickly located the suspects’ vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, investigators discovered a large quantity of stolen mail along with tools commonly used for break-ins.
Both suspects were arrested at the scene.
Dozens of victims affected
Police believe more than 35 victims were impacted by the thefts. Recovered items included:
- Stolen cheques
- Credit cards
- Personal identification documents
Authorities say such crimes can lead to identity theft and financial fraud, increasing the seriousness of the offences.
Charges against suspects
Kulwinder Singh, 35, of Chestermere faces:
- 38 counts of theft of mail
- Three counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000
- One count of mischief under $5,000
- One count of possession of break-in instruments
- One count of possession of a stolen credit card
He is scheduled to appear in court on May 1, 2026.
Jagroop Singh, 27, of Calgary faces:
- 38 counts of theft of mail
- Six counts of possession of a stolen credit card
- Two counts of possession of identity documents
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance
- Two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000
- One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000
- One count of mischief under $5,000
- One count of disguise with intent
- One count of possession of break-in instruments
He is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2026.
Police warning on mailbox security
Investigators are urging residents to remain vigilant, regularly check their mail, and report suspicious activity. Community mailboxes are often targeted for financial documents that can be used in fraud schemes.
