Pakistan Canada Association Calgary has announced a Special General Body Meeting aimed at discussing major constitutional amendments and the organization’s future direction, including efforts to secure charitable status with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The important community meeting will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the PCA Hall in Calgary.
Speaking on behalf of PCA Calgary, spokesperson Burhan Khan said the proposed amendments are designed to strengthen the association’s governance, transparency, and long term community impact. He emphasized that obtaining CRA charitable status would open new opportunities for grants, funding, and expanded social programs benefiting the Pakistani Canadian community across Calgary.
According to the public notice issued by the Executive Committee of PCA Calgary, members have been invited to attend and participate in discussions regarding amendments to the PCA Calgary by laws. The meeting will also include member feedback, voting procedures, and discussions on the organization’s future charitable initiatives.
The Executive Committee highlighted several key benefits of achieving charitable status. These include the ability to issue official tax deductible receipts for donations, improved access to government and institutional funding, stronger public trust and credibility, and expanded community services such as food drives, newcomer support programs, cultural education, and welfare initiatives. The proposal also aims to ensure greater accountability, compliance, and financial transparency within the organization.
The Special General Body Meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM MST at PCA Hall, located at 507–509, 4656 Westwinds Drive NE, Calgary, Alberta. Community members are expected to discuss and review the proposed by law amendments before final approval.
The official agenda for the evening includes review of the proposed by law changes, discussion regarding the CRA charitable status application, member feedback and approval, as well as a question and answer session focusing on future steps for PCA Calgary.
The notice has been jointly issued by PCA Calgary President Azhar Hunjra and General Secretary Noman Mushtaq, who encouraged all members to participate in shaping the future of one of Calgary’s oldest Pakistani community organizations.
Founded in 1967 and officially registered in 1975, PCA Calgary has played an important role in promoting cultural harmony, community engagement, and social welfare among Pakistani Canadians in Calgary and surrounding areas. Over the years, the organization has organized cultural events, newcomer support initiatives, volunteer programs, and humanitarian activities serving both the Pakistani and broader Canadian communities
