River Hall launches its longest season after welcoming 10,000 visitors

Set against the Bow River, River Hall transforms a parking lot (Lot 6 – 311 8 Street S.W.) into a temporary, vibrant gathering place where Calgarians can experience live music, enjoy local food and drinks, join a wellness class, shop local pop-ups, or spend an afternoon with family and friends.

After welcoming more than 10,000 visitors, hosting 34 events, and working with more than 80 local programming partners last summer, River Hall returns for its biggest season yet (running July 23 to Sept. 27, 2026).

“What makes River Hall special is that it’s completely free and designed for everyone,” says Carlie Ferguson, Leader of Strategy & Placemaking with The City’s Downtown Strategy team. “Whether you’re stopping by after work, bringing your family down on a Saturday afternoon, or meeting friends for live music, River Hall makes downtown accessible and welcoming.”

Now in its third season, River Hall is expanding to four days a week for the next 10 weeks, creating more opportunities for Calgarians and visitors to enjoy free activities, support local businesses, and experience a vibrant downtown gathering place. The expansion reflects growing demand for free, outdoor experiences downtown and supports ongoing efforts to attract residents, workers, and visitors to Calgary’s core.

What’s on at River Hall 2026

Presented by The City of Calgary working with Aire Commune Productions, River Hall transforms a parking lot into a fully programmed urban destination. Ten signature shipping containers house local food and drink vendors offering craft beer, non-alcoholic beverages, cocktails, coffee, fried chicken, ice cream, and vegetarian options. Admission is free. Pets are welcome.

The space features a community stage with live music, DJs, and performances; shaded picnic zones; family-friendly activities; and open sightlines to the Bow River. In addition, the popular Shirley’s Greenhouse is back again this year, providing fresh, local produce through a partnership with Calgary’s Farm Stand Program (11 a.m.–3 p.m. on select dates).

“River Hall offers something increasingly rare in a busy city, a chance to slow down, move your body, meet your neighbours, and simply exist together without needing a ticket or membership,” says Kate W. Mak, Founder of Mynah School of Yoga. “Everybody is welcome and you can feel that. For us, it’s become more than a yoga class. It’s where our newest teachers take their first steps, and where complete strangers share the same space for 45 minutes and leave feeling like community.”

Calgarians and visitors are invited to kick off the season on Thursday, July 23, featuring live performances from Back & Forth, Jadé, Jenuiine, and DJ Sonidef, along with a first look at the expanded site including new greenspace and community programming.
