MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, October 11, 2026: Members and supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gathered at Celebration Square in Mississauga on Sunday to protest against Pakistan’s political situation, demanding the restoration of constitutional supremacy, the rule of law and democratic governance in the country.

The demonstration was organized under the leadership of Tabish Taufiq, Deputy Secretary of PTI OIC Canada, bringing together party representatives, political activists and members of the Pakistani Canadian community who expressed growing concerns over the state of democracy, electoral representation and constitutional rights in Pakistan.

Protesters called for the restoration of what they described as the democratic mandate delivered by Pakistani voters during the country’s last general elections. They argued that the will of the people must be respected and that political authority should remain firmly rooted in constitutional principles and the democratic process.

The gathering also highlighted concerns surrounding political developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where speakers strongly criticized what they described as the imposition of Governor’s Rule and the removal of the PTI-led provincial government.

According to the speakers, the provincial administration enjoyed a two-thirds majority and represented the democratic choice of the people. They maintained that any attempt to undermine an elected provincial government would raise serious questions about provincial autonomy, constitutional protections and the future of democratic institutions in Pakistan.

The demonstration featured addresses by prominent PTI representatives and community members, including Zafar Iqbal, Koukab Syed, Fida Khan, Hadi Khan, Tabish Taufiq, Colonel Sohail Anwar, Mian Aslam Reza, Rubina Faisal, Imtiaz Awan and Ali Dogar.

Throughout their speeches, participants emphasized that the Constitution must remain the supreme legal authority governing Pakistan and that no political institution or individual should operate beyond its established framework.

Speakers stressed that democratic stability depends on respect for the electoral process, judicial independence, political accountability and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.

They argued that Pakistan’s political challenges cannot be resolved through measures that weaken representative institutions or disregard the choices made by voters.

The speakers also expressed concern over the broader implications of political uncertainty for Pakistan’s democratic future, warning that continued disputes over electoral legitimacy and constitutional authority could further damage public confidence in state institutions.

Particular attention was given to the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Participants maintained that the rights of provincial governments and elected representatives must be protected in accordance with the Constitution.

They described the reported removal of the PTI-led provincial administration as a challenge to the principles of parliamentary democracy and called for the protection of the mandate they said had been secured through the electoral process.

The protesters also urged political stakeholders in Pakistan to prioritize constitutional governance, transparency and respect for democratic institutions over political confrontation.

The central message of the demonstration was that Pakistan’s political future should be determined by its citizens through free and fair elections, rather than through actions that protesters believe undermine elected representation.

For Pakistani Canadians attending the gathering, the protest provided an opportunity to voice concerns about developments in their country of origin while exercising their democratic right to peaceful political expression in Canada.

Participants emphasized that geographical distance does not diminish their interest in Pakistan’s political future or their commitment to advocating for democratic principles and constitutional protections.

The gathering also reflected the continuing involvement of overseas Pakistanis in political debates affecting Pakistan, particularly issues involving electoral legitimacy, provincial autonomy and the relationship between state institutions and elected governments.

Under the leadership of Tabish Taufiq, PTI OIC Canada representatives reaffirmed their support for constitutional supremacy and called for political disputes to be addressed through democratic and lawful means.

The protesters maintained that restoring public confidence in Pakistan’s democratic institutions requires respect for the Constitution, protection of political rights and recognition of the people’s electoral choices.

Organizers said the demonstration concluded peacefully, with participants dispersing without any reported disturbances or incidents.

The Mississauga protest highlighted the continuing political engagement of Pakistan’s overseas community, as PTI supporters in Canada sought to draw attention to their demands for constitutional rule, democratic accountability and the restoration of representative governance in Pakistan.

While the allegations and political claims raised during the demonstration reflect the positions expressed by PTI supporters, the gathering underscored the determination of participants to keep Pakistan’s constitutional and democratic challenges at the forefront of political discussion within the Pakistani Canadian community.
