Peshawar Administration Holds Anti-Corruption Seminar to Promote Transparency and Good Governance

PESHAWAR: The district administration of Peshawar organized a seminar on “Anti-Corruption” at the District Council Hall to promote transparency, good governance, the rule of law, and public awareness about combating corruption.

The event brought together Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Daud Saleemi, senior government and administrative officials, religious scholars, representatives of civil society, members of the media, students, and people from various walks of life.

The seminar commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Qari Hafiz Huzaifa. Assistant Commissioner (City) Zeeshan Najeeb conducted the proceedings and welcomed the participants, highlighting the objectives of the seminar. He emphasized that eliminating corruption requires a collective effort from government institutions and society as a whole.

Addressing the gathering, Maulana Abdul Karim, Senior Member of the Muttahida Ulema Board Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said that Islam strongly advocates honesty, integrity, justice, and accountability while strictly prohibiting bribery, dishonesty, and corruption. He stressed that promoting ethical values and moral responsibility is essential to eradicating corruption from society.

Renowned journalist and editor Amjad Aziz Malik spoke about the constructive role of the media in promoting transparency and accountability. He said that an independent, responsible, and principled press serves as one of the strongest tools in the fight against corruption by creating public awareness and strengthening the process of accountability.

NAB Additional Director Aftab Ahmad Khan briefed participants on the role of the National Accountability Bureau, the country’s anti-corruption laws, and the accountability framework. He stated that institutional efforts alone cannot eliminate corruption, adding that public cooperation, transparency, and strict adherence to the rule of law are equally important in achieving meaningful and lasting reforms.

In his concluding remarks, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Daud Saleemi reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to promoting transparent, accountable, and citizen-centric governance. He said that effective anti-corruption measures, equal enforcement of the law, and restoring public confidence remain among the government’s highest priorities. He added that all relevant institutions would continue working in close coordination to eliminate corruption and build a transparent and accountable society.

The seminar concluded with a unanimous call for collective action against corruption. Speakers emphasized that the fight against corruption is not solely the responsibility of government institutions but a shared obligation of every citizen. They stressed that by upholding honesty, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, Pakistan can lay the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous, and progressive future.
