Flames Prospect Ethan Wyttenbach Stars as United States Defeats Canada in World Junior Summer Showcase

Calgary Flames prospect Ethan Wyttenbach delivered another standout performance by scoring twice as the United States defeated Canada 7-2 in the final game of the World Junior Summer Showcase in Windsor, Ontario.

The talented forward continued his impressive run throughout the tournament, further strengthening his case for a place on the United States roster for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be hosted in Edmonton and Red Deer later this year.

Wyttenbach, who was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round of the 2025 NHL Draft, entered the showcase in outstanding form after a remarkable freshman season with Quinnipiac University. He emerged as one of the NCAA’s top offensive players during the 2025-26 campaign and carried that momentum into international competition.

His two-goal performance against Canada capped an exceptional tournament in which he recorded 12 points, including six goals and six assists, in six games. He finished as the leading scorer of the four-team showcase and was one of the event’s most consistent offensive performers.

The United States controlled the game from the opening period, displaying speed, skill and clinical finishing. Wyttenbach’s offensive production set the tone, while several teammates also made significant contributions in a dominant team performance.

Nashville Predators prospect Wyatt Cullen enjoyed an outstanding outing with one goal and two assists, helping the Americans maintain offensive pressure throughout the contest. Canada struggled to keep pace with the Americans and managed only two goals. Utah Mammoth prospect Ethan Belchetz scored one of Canada’s goals, while highly regarded 2027 NHL Draft prospect Dima Zhilkin, who plays for the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, added the other.

The defeat concluded a mixed tournament for Canada, which finished with a 1-2 record. The Canadians opened the event with a victory over Finland but were later defeated by both Sweden and the United States, exposing areas the coaching staff will look to improve before the World Junior Championship begins later this year.

The World Junior Summer Showcase serves as one of the most important evaluation camps for Hockey Canada, USA Hockey, Sweden and Finland. Coaches and management use the tournament to assess player performances, chemistry and readiness as they begin shaping their final rosters for the prestigious international championship.
