A five-year-old child was airlifted to hospital after being found unresponsive in a drainage pond near a splash park in Sylvan Lake earlier this month.
According to Sylvan Lake RCMP, officers were called shortly after 3:30 p.m. on July 6 following reports that a young child had gone missing from a local splash park.
Before emergency crews arrived, the child was located in a nearby drainage pond in an unresponsive condition.
Police officers, emergency medical services and Sylvan Lake Fire Department personnel responded quickly to the scene and immediately provided assistance.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the child was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to a hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Authorities have not released any information regarding the child’s current medical condition or the circumstances that led to the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing as RCMP continue to examine the events surrounding the incident.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of close supervision around both recreational water areas and nearby bodies of water, particularly during the busy summer season when parks and splash facilities attract large numbers of families.
