A joint safety operation involving the Calgary Police Service, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Foothills County Peace Officers has led to the removal of an encampment located just outside Calgary, following repeated concerns about violence, property crime and public safety in the area.

The encampment, situated on private rural land near 210 Avenue and 64 Street S.W. in Foothills County, had been the subject of numerous complaints between January 1 and March 1, 2026. Authorities reported incidents involving suspicious activity, thefts and unsafe behaviour. In several cases, individuals from the site were accused of chasing or striking passing vehicles, while one incident involved a road maintenance worker being threatened with a knife.

On March 23, officers from CPS District 8 Community Engagement Response Team, along with RCMP and county peace officers, attended the location to address safety risks and assist with cleanup efforts. One individual found at the site was arrested on outstanding warrants and trespassing charges. Police also offered support services, including transportation into Calgary to access community resources.

Officers returned the following day to ensure the safety of cleanup crews and again encountered the same individual, who was arrested for breaching release conditions. Authorities said that despite repeated outreach efforts by support clinicians, the individual declined assistance.

Cleanup crews removed four trailer loads of debris, including makeshift structures and personal belongings such as bicycles and household items. Four knives were seized during the operation, and no additional weapons were discovered.

Police officials emphasized that while efforts continue to focus on compassion and connecting individuals with support services, public safety remains the priority. Authorities confirmed that similar coordinated operations will continue in areas experiencing elevated levels of crime, disorder and safety concerns as part of ongoing efforts to maintain community safety across the region.
