Egypt’s rising star Amina Orfi produced a career-defining performance to win the Professional Squash Association World Championship 2026, defeating compatriot and world number two Nour El-Sherbini in a gripping five-game final in Giza.

The 18-year-old claimed a dramatic 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 14-12 victory, sealing one of the most memorable matches in recent squash history and becoming the youngest women’s world champion in the sport.

A Final That Went to the Wire

El-Sherbini, a multiple-time world champion, started strongly and took the opening game comfortably as Orfi struggled to settle into rhythm. But the teenager quickly responded, leveling the match with sharp attacking play and improved control in the second game.

Momentum shifted again in a tense third game, where Orfi edged ahead with crucial winners under pressure. El-Sherbini fought back in the fourth, dominating exchanges to force a decisive fifth game.

The final game delivered high drama, with long rallies and repeated tie-break pressure before Orfi sealed victory with a decisive backhand that El-Sherbini could not return.

A Record-Breaking Achievement

With this win, Orfi becomes the first player in history to hold both junior and senior world titles simultaneously, marking a rare milestone in professional squash.

She also adds another chapter to Egypt’s dominance in the sport, a nation already producing some of the most successful players in modern squash history.

Semifinal Statement and Tournament Run

Orfi’s path to the title included a major semifinal win over world number one Hania El Hammamy, where she recovered from a first-game loss to secure a four-game victory.

The result set up the all-Egyptian final and highlighted the country’s continued strength at the top of women’s squash.

Asal Retains Men’s Crown

In the men’s final, reigning champion Mostafa Asal successfully defended his title with a straight-games win over Youssef Ibrahim, reinforcing his position among the sport’s elite.

Asal controlled the match from the outset, closing out a 11-4, 11-1, 12-10 victory in front of an enthusiastic home crowd in Giza.

A New Era for Egyptian Squash

Orfi’s breakthrough victory signals a generational shift in women’s squash, with the teenager now emerging as a major force on the global stage.

Her triumph, alongside Asal’s dominance in the men’s draw, further cements Egypt’s status as the world’s leading squash powerhouse.
