Airdrie, Alberta (April 17, 2026) — A violent altercation in the parking lot of CrossIron Mills has resulted in serious charges after a suspect fled the province and was later arrested in British Columbia.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:15 p.m. on April 13 regarding a stabbing incident at the shopping centre. When police arrived, they located a man suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He was transported to a Calgary hospital and is now in stable condition.
Investigators determined that the victim and suspect were known to each other and had arranged to meet for a cellphone transaction. During the encounter, the situation escalated, and the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
Before being taken to hospital, the victim was able to provide police with the identity of the suspect, allowing investigators to act quickly. The Airdrie RCMP Criminal Investigation Division issued a Canada-wide warrant as part of their investigation.
Police later confirmed the suspect had travelled to Surrey, British Columbia. With assistance from the Surrey Police Service’s Prolific Offender Unit, the suspect was taken into custody on April 14. Officers from Alberta then travelled to escort him back to Airdrie.
The accused, Tariq Hussain, 46, of Calgary, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and robbery. He has been remanded into custody following a judicial interim release hearing.
Hussain is scheduled to appear next at the Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on April 20.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
