Celebrate your community this Neighbour Day on June 20

Neighbour Day is Calgary’s annual celebration of community spirit, bringing people together across the city. This year, it takes place on Saturday, June 20, 2026.  

It’s a chance to say hello and connect with the people in your neighbourhood. Whether it’s a quick chat, sharing food or enjoying activities, small moments can build strong and lasting connections. 

Neighbour Day began in 2014, after Calgarians came together to support one another during the 2013 floods. It was created to recognize the resilience and strength of those community connections. Today, it continues to grow through community-led events across the city. 

For the second year in a row, the #YYCNeighbourDay microgrant is supporting celebrations across Calgary. 54 microgrants have been awarded, helping community associations, business improvement areas and non-profit organizations bring Neighbour Day events and activities to life. 

In Millican Ogden, the community association will mark its 70^th anniversary on Neighbour Day with a full day of activities and ending with an evening social dance. 

“Celebrating 70 years in our community on Neighbour Day is really meaningful for us,” said Lorraine Robinson, past president of the Millican Ogden Community Association. “With support from the #YYCNeighbourDay microgrant, we’re able to include Indigenous dancers accompanied by a drummer. There will also be historical horse wagon tours with a local historian guide and thanks to the Calgary Fire Department, an antique fire truck for people to explore. It’s a great way to create a welcoming experience for everyone!” 

“Neighbour Day is about showing up for one another and taking pride in the places we live,” said Mayor Jeromy Farkas. “Across Calgary, neighbours are coming together through block parties, community concerts, barbecues, crafts, gardening and more – simple ways to spend time together and strengthen local connections. I encourage everyone to join in and celebrate what makes their neighbourhood special.” 

In addition to neighbourhood celebrations, Sport Calgary’s All Sport One Day will take place across the city, giving children a free opportunity to try new sports. Sport Calgary will also be accepting donations of gently used sports equipment to support continued access to recreation. 

At participating Neighbour Day events, Tourism Calgary’s “Come Together, Colour Calgary” initiative will bring neighbours together to colour collaborative canvas murals celebrating the people, places and diversity that make our Blue Sky City so vibrant. Participants can also enter to win a $1,000 Calgary staycation package.
