Mark Carney held talks with José Antonio Kast to strengthen bilateral relations between Canada and Chile, focusing on trade, investment and emerging sectors.
During the conversation, the prime minister congratulated President Kast on his recent inauguration and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to deepening cooperation under the Canada–Chile Strategic Partnership Framework. Both leaders highlighted opportunities to expand collaboration across aerospace, critical minerals, Antarctic research and advanced defence technologies.
Economic ties remain a cornerstone of the relationship, with Canada continuing as Chile’s largest foreign investor, contributing more than $27 billion in investments. The leaders pointed to this as a clear sign of the strong and evolving trade partnership supported by agreements such as the Canada–Chile Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
They also emphasized their shared commitment to rules-based global trade, noting that both countries provide stable and transparent regulatory environments that attract international partners and support long-term economic growth.
The discussion reflects a broader effort by both nations to build resilient partnerships in key industries while adapting to changing global economic conditions. By strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors and reinforcing trade frameworks, Canada and Chile aim to unlock new opportunities for businesses and innovation.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as they continue advancing bilateral priorities and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
