Calgary Public Hearing Begins on Citywide Rezoning Proposal

Calgary City Council is preparing for an extended public hearing as debate intensifies over proposed changes involving residential land use across the city.

Large Public Participation Expected

City officials report exceptionally high public interest ahead of the hearing.

  • 2,390 written submissions received

Thousands of Pages Added to Agenda

The total meeting documentation now exceeds 6,800 pages, reflecting one of the largest public participation volumes in recent council planning discussions.

Council to Review Rezoning Amendment

The hearing focuses on a proposed amendment linked to restoring previous low density residential land use districts and repealing citywide rezoning changes.

Multiple Days Expected

Speakers Can Join In Person or Remotely

Each speaker will have up to five minutes to address Council.

Council Questions Allowed

After each panel, council members may ask questions of speakers.

Security Measures in Place

Those entering council chambers must pass through security screening including bag checks and metal detectors.

Seating Will Be Limited

Priority access inside Council Chamber will go to registered speakers scheduled for upcoming panels.

Additional Viewing Areas Prepared

Live viewing space will also be available in the municipal atrium for those waiting or observing.

Transit and Parking Support Offered

The city says complimentary transit tickets and limited free parking are available for participants attending in person.

City Services Continue During Hearing

Officials stress that regular city services at the building will remain available despite increased public attendance.
