Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred Sunday night in southwest Calgary.
According to authorities, the incident took place around 8:20 p.m. on April 12, 2026, near the intersection of 16 Avenue and 8 Street S.W., close to Tomkins Park.
Investigators say an unidentified man was crossing 16 Avenue from the park area when he fell or lay down on the roadway in front of a parked Nissan Rogue. Several minutes later, the driver of the vehicle returned, started the engine, and pulled out of the parking spot, unknowingly driving over the pedestrian.
Emergency crews transported the man to hospital, where he later died. The exact cause of death is still under review, with an autopsy being conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine whether the fatality resulted from injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver, a man in his 50s, remained at the scene and was not injured. Police have not released further details about the pedestrian’s identity.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine all factors that contributed to the tragic incident.
