Police in Calgary have charged a man in connection with an arson attack targeting a residential property in the Bridlewood community earlier this month.

The investigation, led by the Calgary Police Service Arson Unit, stems from a fire reported around 3 a.m. on April 1, 2026, at a home located in the 100 block of Bridlewood Avenue S.W.

Deliberate Fire Set in Residential Area

According to investigators, two individuals entered the rear yard of the property and intentionally set fire to a detached garage. Authorities say the suspects also attempted to ignite the home before fleeing the scene in a waiting vehicle.

Following a detailed investigation, officers determined that the vehicle used in the incident had been reported stolen.

Arrest and Evidence Seized

Members of the District 6 operations team later located the suspect in possession of the stolen vehicle and made an arrest.

During the search, police seized several items, including:

  • A shotgun
  • A quantity of fentanyl
  • A hatchet
  • Clothing believed to match what was worn during the arson

Suspect Identified and Charged

The accused has been identified as Michael Keith Caseley, 49.

He is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Arson with disregard for human life
  • Possession of drugs
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Driving while disqualified
  • Traffic-related offences

Police say additional charges may be laid pending further examination of the firearm recovered during the arrest.

Court Appearance and Ongoing Investigation

Caseley is scheduled to appear in court on April 22, 2026.

Investigators confirm the case remains active, and efforts are ongoing to identify and locate the second suspect involved in the incident.
