Three Charged in Calgary Commercial Break and Enter Series Involving $234,000 in Stolen Property

Police in Calgary have charged three individuals following an investigation into a series of commercial break-ins that resulted in the theft of property valued at more than $234,000.

The incidents are believed to have taken place between January 5 and January 26, 2026, targeting four businesses in the Vista Heights area in northeast Calgary. Investigators say the suspects gained entry into the properties and removed valuable items over multiple occurrences.

Authorities executed search warrants on January 27 and January 30 at two residences located in the southwest part of the city, as well as on two vehicles. The searches led to the recovery of several items, including rare coins, laptops, tools, and equipment believed to be used for melting down precious metals.

Among the items seized were human teeth that had been stripped of valuable metals, indicating a possible operation involving the extraction and resale of precious materials. The recovered property has an estimated value of approximately $34,915.

Following the investigation, three suspects were arrested and formally charged.

Steven Edward Hart, 42, faces multiple charges, including six counts of commercial break and enter, seven counts of trafficking stolen property, and 13 counts of breaching a judicial order. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2026.

Alston Jason Van Wezel, 48, has been charged with 12 counts of commercial break and enter, along with one count of drug possession. His next court appearance is set for April 27, 2026.

Erin Lindsay Emerson, 49, is facing multiple charges, including drug possession, trafficking stolen property, possession of stolen goods, possession of identity documents, and breaching a judicial order. She appeared in court on April 24, 2026.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing and are continuing efforts to identify any additional suspects or related incidents.

Authorities are also urging business owners to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, emphasizing the importance of security measures to prevent similar crimes.
