Artists Are the True Ambassadors of Culture and National Identity, Says KP Information Minister

PESHAWAR, July 6: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to supporting artists and promoting the cultural heritage of the province, describing artists as the true ambassadors of a society’s culture, civilization and positive identity.

The minister made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Artist Action Foundation at his office in the Civil Secretariat. The delegation was led by renowned artist Arshad Hussain and included Tariq Jamal, Naushaba, Bushra Farrukh, Zulfiqar, Khalid Khattak, and other members of the artistic community.

The meeting focused on a wide range of issues related to the promotion of arts and culture in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the Artists Endowment Fund, the welfare of artists, financial assistance, and measures to revitalize cultural activities across the province. Members of the delegation also presented proposals aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of artists and strengthening cultural institutions.

Addressing the delegation, Shafi Jan said that artists play an indispensable role in preserving the nation’s history, traditions and cultural heritage. He noted that through their creativity and dedication, artists help safeguard national identity and pass it on to future generations.

“Artists are the true ambassadors of our culture, civilization and positive identity,” the minister said. “Their contributions extend beyond entertainment, serving as a powerful force in preserving our heritage and projecting the rich cultural values of our society.”

He said the provincial government considers the promotion of arts, culture and literary heritage among its key priorities and remains committed to creating an environment where artists can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society. He added that every possible effort would be made to address the challenges faced by the artistic community and improve their welfare.

The minister assured the delegation that the proposals presented during the meeting would receive serious consideration and that practical measures would be taken to implement viable recommendations. He also announced that a high-level meeting involving the Chief Minister’s Special Assistant for Culture and relevant government officials would soon be convened to develop a comprehensive roadmap for resolving artists’ issues, strengthening the Artists Endowment Fund, and expanding cultural initiatives throughout the province.

Representatives of the Artist Action Foundation welcomed the minister’s assurances and thanked him for his willingness to engage with the artistic community. They expressed optimism that the government’s planned initiatives would not only improve the welfare of artists but also provide renewed momentum for the promotion of arts and culture in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation between the government and the artistic community to preserve the province’s rich cultural heritage and create greater opportunities for artists across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
