Calgary’s Hindu community came together in vibrant celebrations this spring, highlighting the city’s growing multicultural spirit and strong sense of unity. Families, youth, community leaders, and cultural organizations gathered across the city to celebrate important Hindu festivals including Holi, Vaisakhi, and other spiritual and cultural events that brought colour, music, faith, and tradition to the forefront.

One of the major celebrations was the “Spring Fest: Holi & Vaisakhi 2026,” organized by the community group Indians in Calgary at Prairie Winds Park. The event welcomed people from diverse backgrounds to enjoy traditional Indian music, dance performances, cultural activities, and family entertainment. Holi, known as the Festival of Colours, symbolizes joy, friendship, and the victory of good over evil, while Vaisakhi marks the harvest season and carries deep spiritual significance for many South Asians.

Temples and Hindu organizations throughout Calgary also hosted prayers, poojas, devotional gatherings, and community meals during the celebrations. The Hindu Society of Calgary organized several religious and cultural activities throughout the year, bringing together devotees and families to preserve traditions and strengthen community connections.

ISKCON Calgary and the Sri Murugan Society of Alberta Calgary also continued their regular spiritual programs, temple services, and celebrations, welcoming members of the community for worship and cultural engagement.

Community leaders said these celebrations are not only religious occasions but also opportunities to promote harmony, diversity, and understanding among different cultures in Calgary. The events showcased traditional Indian heritage through colourful clothing, devotional songs, cultural performances, and authentic cuisine, creating a festive atmosphere for all generations.

As Calgary continues to grow as one of Canada’s most diverse cities, Hindu cultural celebrations remain an important part of the city’s multicultural identity, encouraging unity, inclusion, and respect among communities.
