Malaysia’s squash star Sivasangari Subramaniam delivered another remarkable comeback performance to clinch the Grasshopper Cup title in Zurich, reinforcing her growing dominance on the international circuit.

The world No. 6 and third seed fought back from a 1-2 deficit to defeat Japan’s Satomi Watanabe in a gripping five-game final, winning 15-13, 5-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8. The intense match, held at Zurich Main Station, lasted 62 minutes and showcased Sivasangari’s resilience under pressure.

Another comeback victory seals the title

The victory marks Sivasangari’s second title of the year and her third gold-level crown, adding to her triumphs at the London Squash Classic and the Australian Open earlier this year.

Her latest success also serves as redemption after finishing runner-up in Zurich last year to Nouran Gohar.

Dominance over Watanabe continues

With this win, Sivasangari has strengthened her head-to-head record against Watanabe, now leading 7-1 in their encounters. Despite dropping two consecutive games in the final, she maintained composure to dominate the closing stages.

Semi-final breakthrough against Orfi

A day before the final, Sivasangari overcame another tough challenge against Egypt’s rising star Amina Orfi in the semi-finals.

She again came from behind to win 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-5 in an 82-minute battle. The victory was particularly significant as it ended her six-match losing streak against the world No. 3.

Confidence and crowd support fuel success

Speaking after her victory, the 27-year-old praised the Zurich crowd for their support, saying the atmosphere reminded her of playing in London, where fans enthusiastically cheered her on.

Her growing confidence, combined with consistent performances, signals a new phase in her career as she continues to challenge the world’s top players.
