Authorities in Calgary have laid charges against a man in connection with a significant copper theft that disrupted operations at a medical supply business and caused extensive financial losses. The incident, which dates back to July 2025, had serious implications for the storage of critical healthcare materials.
According to investigators, the break-in occurred at a production facility located in the city’s southeast industrial area, where temperature-sensitive dialysis supplies were stored. Police believe the suspect entered the premises multiple times over the course of a week, stealing copper piping from refrigeration systems as well as custom vehicle rims. The removal of copper piping led to the failure of cooling systems, compromising stored medical supplies and resulting in an estimated $400,000 in damages.
The case saw a breakthrough after a member of the public came forward with information following media coverage of the incident. Police say that tip played a crucial role in identifying and locating the suspect after an extensive investigation.
A 52-year-old Calgary man, Peter Roy Thedorff, has now been charged with three counts of break and enter and one count of mischief. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2026.
Officials emphasized that the impact of the crime extended far beyond property loss, noting that the disruption affected the storage of essential, lifesaving medical materials and posed broader risks to the community. Authorities also expressed appreciation for public cooperation, highlighting the importance of community involvement in solving complex cases.
The investigation remains a reminder of the serious consequences associated with infrastructure-related theft, particularly when it affects critical services such as healthcare supply chains.
