91 warrants executed downtown as part of joint initiative

Eighteen people were arrested, 91 outstanding warrants were executed and more than $3,000 in outstanding fines were paid during a co-ordinated enforcement initiative targeting wanted suspects earlier this month.

On Aug. 5 and 6, 2026, we partnered with the Alberta Sheriffs’ Fugitive Apprehension Sheriffs Support Team (FASST) to locate individuals wanted on outstanding criminal and non-criminal warrants in downtown Calgary and the surrounding area.

Of the warrants executed:

• 77 were criminal warrants, 25 of which were related to violent offences
• 14 were non-criminal warrants

Many of the warrants executed were related to assault of a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of a dangerous weapon, assault with a weapon, hazardous storage of a firearm, breach of probation, failure to attend court or failure to comply with release orders.

“This operation demonstrates the value of proactive enforcement and strong partnerships,” says Sgt. Chelsea Karpenko with the Calgary Police Service (CPS). “This work does not stop here. Investigators from the CPS and Alberta Sheriffs continue to actively pursue additional wanted individuals using intelligence gathered throughout this operation. Holding offenders accountable and ensuring they answer to outstanding warrants remains an important part of maintaining safe communities.”

Darren Thompson with the Alberta Sheriffs FASST. “By working closely with the Calgary Police Service and other enforcement partners, we can combine intelligence and resources to locate wanted individuals, hold offenders accountable and enhance public safety.”

This operation complements the CPS’ broader Safer Calgary initiative, which brings together police, enforcement and community partners including Calgary Community Standards, Calgary Transit Public Safety and the Alberta Sheriffs, to enhance public safety in priority areas through strategic patrols, targeted enforcement, outreach and referrals to support services.
