University of Calgary Ranked Among the World’s Leading Universities in QS 2027 Global Rankings

CALGARY — The University of Calgary has strengthened its position on the global academic stage after being recognized among the world’s top universities in the newly released QS World University Rankings 2027.

The prestigious international ranking placed the University of Calgary at 249th position worldwide, earning an overall score of 51.5 out of 100 and securing its place among the top institutions of higher learning globally.

The QS World University Rankings 2027 assessed more than 8,000 universities worldwide before selecting the top 1,500 institutions for inclusion. The ranking is widely regarded as one of the most influential measures of university performance and reputation across the globe.

According to QS, the universities featured in the rankings represent the highest standards in international higher education, evaluating institutions based on a range of indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, employment outcomes, research impact and global engagement.

The University of Calgary achieved an academic reputation score of 48.6 and an employer reputation score of 39.3. These indicators are considered among the most significant components of the ranking system, reflecting how universities are perceived by academics and employers worldwide.

Academic reputation is measured through extensive surveys of scholars and researchers who identify institutions recognized for excellence in their respective fields. Employer reputation, meanwhile, is based on feedback from employers who assess the quality and preparedness of graduates entering the workforce.

The university also earned a strong employment outcomes score of 55.9, highlighting its success in preparing graduates for meaningful careers and leadership roles in a variety of professional sectors.

QS noted that employment outcomes have become increasingly important as students seek institutions that can provide strong career prospects and opportunities after graduation. The indicator evaluates how effectively universities support graduates in achieving professional success and making contributions across industries including business, science, politics, technology, healthcare and the arts.

The latest ranking reflects the University of Calgary’s growing international reputation as a research-intensive institution known for innovation, entrepreneurship and academic excellence. The university continues to attract students, researchers and faculty members from around the world while contributing significantly to Alberta’s economy and knowledge sector.

The achievement places the University of Calgary among a select group of Canadian institutions recognized on the global stage. Four Canadian universities secured positions within the world’s top 100.

The University of Toronto ranked 32nd globally, while McGill University placed 30th. The University of British Columbia earned the 45th position, and the University of Alberta entered the top 100 at 96th place.

University leaders and supporters view the ranking as a reflection of the institution’s commitment to research excellence, student success and international collaboration.
