The two day festival officially commenced with a traditional candle lighting ceremony led by the distinguished guests and members of the Sarb Akal Music Society of Calgary’s Board of Directors. The simple yet elegant inauguration reflected the spirit of unity, culture, and respect for the rich heritage of Indian classical music.

The opening performance of the festival featured devotional Shabads presented by renowned vocalist Manvir Singh. He was accompanied by Ram Singh on tabla and Rattan Sidhu on violin. Their soulful and melodious rendition created a serene atmosphere and provided a perfect beginning to the festival. The outstanding performance by these talented Calgary based artists set the tone for the remarkable musical journey that followed.

The second presentation showcased an impressive performance by Maiher Singh Virk on the Jori, accompanied by Hardeep Channa on harmonium. Their exceptional command of rhythm and harmony captivated the audience and highlighted the depth and beauty of traditional Sikh and Indian classical music.

The final performance of the opening day featured acclaimed vocalist Vidushi Ramneek Singh, whose mesmerizing recital became one of the festival’s highlights. She was accompanied by Maiher Virk on tabla and Rattan Sidhu on violin. Her presentation included a beautiful selection of classical compositions, devotional Shabads, and an inspiring Tarana. Her powerful voice, artistic expression, and flawless command of classical music left the audience spellbound, making it an unforgettable conclusion to the first day of the festival.
