Red Deer Duo Earn Invitations to Team Alberta U18 Female Fall Camp

Defender Addison Shaw and forward Jensyn Stephenson of the U18AAA Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs have been invited to Hockey Alberta’s Team Alberta Under-18 Female Fall Camp, moving one step closer to representing the province at the 2027 Canada Winter Games.

The five-day camp will be held in Red Deer from September 24 to 28 and will feature 28 of Alberta’s top young female hockey players competing for spots on Team Alberta’s final roster.

Both Shaw and Stephenson enter the camp following an outstanding season with the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, helping the club capture the Esso Cup national championship. Stephenson finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with 13 points in seven games, while Shaw contributed six points in seven games from the blue line.

The Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs celebrated the achievement, congratulating both players on earning invitations to the provincial camp and encouraging them as they continue their journey toward the Canada Winter Games.

The fall camp roster includes three goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 15 forwards selected through Hockey Alberta’s extensive scouting process. Player evaluations were based on performances during previous Team Alberta programs, regional scouting events and the U18 Summer Camp held in Red Deer earlier this month, where 46 athletes participated in on-ice sessions, off-ice training and classroom development.

During the fall camp, Team Alberta hopefuls will face strong competition in a series of exhibition games against university teams. The squad is scheduled to play two games against the University of Alberta Pandas and one game against the MacEwan University Griffins, providing players with valuable experience against older and more experienced opponents.

The camp will play a key role in determining the athletes selected to represent Alberta at the 2027 Canada Winter Games in Quebec City.

The women’s hockey competition at the Games is scheduled for March 8 to 14, 2027. Team Alberta has been placed in a preliminary round pool alongside British Columbia, New Brunswick and host province Quebec, where it will compete for a place in the medal rounds.

For Shaw and Stephenson, the invitation marks another significant milestone in their rapidly developing hockey careers. Their success at the national club level has now earned them an opportunity to compete among Alberta’s best young players as they pursue the chance to wear the provincial colours on one of Canada’s biggest multi-sport stages.
