The spiritual and soulful sounds of Punjabi Sufi music are set to echo across Calgary as Lakhwinder Wadali prepares to bring his much awaited “The Lajpalan Tour” to Calgary on May 16 at Bella Concert Hall. The musical evening is being presented by India Property Solutions and Zafar Khan Entertainment and is already creating excitement among lovers of Qawwali and Sufi music in Alberta.
Organizers say the Calgary performance will be one of the major highlights of the Canadian leg of the tour, which celebrates spirituality, devotion and the traditional heritage of Punjabi Sufi music. The event will feature a full live Qawwali orchestra along with performances of devotional kalaams, ghazals and soulful compositions associated with the legendary Wadali musical tradition.
Lakhwinder Wadali belongs to the internationally recognized Wadali family, known for preserving classical Punjabi Sufi and Qawwali traditions for decades. Over the years, he has built a strong following among South Asian audiences in Canada, the United Kingdom and the Middle East because of his emotional stage presence and spiritually uplifting performances. His famous Sufi renditions and folk inspired musical style continue to attract audiences from different generations.
Promoter Zafar Khan, while speaking with BWTimes, said that the response to the Canadian tour has been overwhelming. He shared that successful and packed shows in Vancouver and Surrey encouraged the organizers to expand the experience to Calgary and other Canadian cities. According to him, audiences in British Columbia showed tremendous love for Sufi and Qawwali music, and the energy from those performances motivated the entire team to bring an even grander production to Alberta.
He further stated that Calgary’s South Asian community has always strongly supported cultural and musical programs, especially events that help connect younger generations with traditional roots and heritage. He described “The Lajpalan Tour” as more than just a concert, calling it a spiritual and emotional musical journey filled with messages of peace, love and humanity.
The concert is expected to attract music lovers from across Alberta including Edmonton, Red Deer and surrounding communities. Organizers believe the event will unite audiences from different cultures through the universal message carried by Qawwali and Sufi music.
Tickets for the Calgary event are currently available online through MRU Tickets while organizers have also announced sponsorship opportunities for local businesses and community supporters.
The Canadian tour also includes performances in other major Canadian cities, reflecting the growing popularity of Punjabi Sufi and Qawwali music across the country.
