Pakistani celebrities have voiced growing concern over the fate of 11 Pakistani crew members aboard a ship hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia, bringing renewed attention to maritime security risks in the region.

Ahira Khan was among the first to highlight the issue, sharing her reaction on Instagram after watching a video related to the hijacking. She questioned why the incident had not received wider media coverage and called for clarity on rescue efforts for the trapped sailors.

Renowned rapper Talha Anjum also expressed deep concern, revealing a personal connection to one of the crew members. In a series of social media posts, he criticized the authorities, claiming there had been little visible action. He described the situation as deeply troubling and urged officials to act swiftly, stating that citizens stranded abroad deserve immediate attention and support.

Actor Sabeena Farooq echoed similar sentiments, expressing shock over the incident and questioning where affected families should turn for justice during such crises.

The vessel, identified as “Owner 25,” was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden on April 21. The crew includes an Indonesian captain along with Pakistani sailors, all of whom have reportedly been held hostage since the attack. The Gulf of Aden remains one of the world’s most sensitive maritime routes, historically prone to piracy incidents due to its strategic location between major shipping lanes.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is in contact with the Somali government and is coordinating efforts alongside the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, the Pakistan Navy, and other stakeholders. Officials say a joint response is underway to secure the safe release of the hostages.

Meanwhile, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi met with the families of the affected crew members, assuring them that both provincial and federal governments are actively working on the case. He stated that communication with the kidnapped sailors remains intact and that recovery efforts are ongoing at multiple levels.

The incident has reignited concerns over the safety of Pakistani seafarers working on international routes, as well as the broader issue of piracy in high-risk waters. As pressure mounts from both the public and prominent voices, authorities face increasing calls to ensure swift and effective action to bring the hostages home safely.
