Diplomatic relations between Pakistan and the Canadian province of British Columbia received a fresh boost as Consul General of Pakistan in Vancouver, Shahzad Hussain, held his first official meeting with David Eby on May 22, 2026. The meeting, joined virtually by Amna Shah, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education and cultural relations between Pakistan and British Columbia.

The high-level discussion highlighted the growing momentum in Pakistan-Canada relations and explored avenues to strengthen partnerships at the provincial level. During the meeting, Consul General Shahzad Hussain conveyed Pakistan’s message of friendship and goodwill while underlining the country’s vast economic potential and investment opportunities.

The Consul General briefed Premier Eby on the role of Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council, known as SIFC, describing it as a streamlined single-window platform aimed at supporting and facilitating foreign investors. He encouraged business leaders and trade delegations from British Columbia to visit Pakistan and explore opportunities in key sectors including commerce, industry and manufacturing.

As a gesture of friendship, the Consul General presented Premier David Eby with a “Made in Pakistan” Trionda football, the official soccer ball of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The souvenir showcased Pakistan’s globally recognized sports manufacturing industry and the craftsmanship of its skilled artisans. The presentation carried added significance as Vancouver is one of the host cities for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.
