Operation Order continues to address social disorder in Calgary

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, we conducted another Safer Calgary – Operation Order initiative, focusing on downtown Calgary and surrounding areas through targeted enforcement, increased visibility and outreach to support services.

Throughout the day, CPS officers worked alongside Calgary Community Standards, Transit Public Safety, the Alberta Sheriffs, Alberta Health Services rapid access paramedics, Recovery Alberta clinicians and outreach partners to proactively engage with the public, enforce laws and bylaws and connect individuals to appropriate supports.

These co-ordinated efforts are part of the broader Safer Calgary strategy, which combines enforcement with community outreach to address crime and social disorder.

“We have heard clearly from people in our city, especially those who live, work, and spend time in our downtown, that safety and social disorder remain real concerns,” said CPS Chief Katie McLellan. “Operation Order is an important part of our public safety strategy and allows us to respond quickly, increase visibility, and intervene where necessary while connecting people to supports.”

“Visibility matters on public safety,” said Mayor Jeromy Farkas. “I’m so proud of the approach Calgary’s Police Service and Chief McLellan have taken with Operation Order: showing our police in our communities, while connecting our most vulnerable to the services they need. “This fourth Operation Order reflects a continued, coordinated effort to improve safety in Calgary,” said Mike Ellis, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services. “Strong collaboration across law enforcement and community partners continues to be critical to that work. I also welcome Operation Restore and its sustained, visible presence in key areas, which will help strengthen safety, stability and confidence in Calgary’s public spaces.”

Operation Order results

The numbers below reflect overall totals from the operation, and are inclusive of enforcement actions from the Calgary Police Service and our partner agencies.

·        Calls attended: 387

·        Persons charged: 5

·        Charges laid: 6

o   Four for failure to comply with an undertaking, release order or breaches

o   One weapons related

o   One drug related

·        Summonses issued: 146

·        Warrants executed: 280

·        Proactive community engagements: 520

·        Social support referrals: 252

Operation Order highlights

·        Officers along 17th Avenue located a man breaching his release conditions and believed to be in possession of drugs. Officers took him into custody and located suspected fentanyl.

·        On Stephen Avenue, our officers responded with paramedics to treat an individual who was actively overdosing. After administering naloxone, the individual declined transportation to the hospital and officers provided referrals for additional supports.

·        Officers working with our partners in Calgary Transit located and arrested a woman in the Chinook CTrain Station who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

·        Members came across a couple who appeared to be passed out on the riverbank.  After checking on their welfare and confirming the couple was not overdosing, officers connected them with social supports.

·        While on Stephen Avenue, Chief McLellan and Deputy Chief O’Brien located a man who had collapsed and had difficulty standing due to drug use. He was referred to partner agencies for supports.

Safer Calgary – Operation Restore

This work will continue with the launch of Safer Calgary – Operation Restore, which begins today, Thursday, June 25, 2026.

Operation Restore is a sustained, high-visibility initiative focused on the East Village and Stephen Avenue.

Officers will be assigned to specific areas over time, supporting ongoing engagement with community members, businesses and outreach partners.

This initiative will rely on strong collaboration with enforcement and community partners, including Calgary Community Standards, Transit Public Safety, the Alberta Sheriffs, other enforcement partners and community outreach organizations.
