Operation Freeze returns to reward positive youth behaviour across southern Alberta

Circle K, the Calgary Police Service, the Lethbridge Police Service and Olds RCMP are partnering to recognize youth who make positive contributions to their communities through Operation Freeze.

For more than 20 years, Operation Freeze has helped strengthen relationships between youth and law enforcement by rewarding good deeds and responsible behaviour with complimentary Froster coupons provided by Circle K.

The positive ticketing initiative encourages officers to recognize young people who demonstrate leadership, kindness and community spirit. Youth may receive a coupon for actions such as wearing a bicycle helmet, volunteering, participating in community activities, helping others, using crosswalks safely or picking up litter.

The coupons provide officers with an opportunity to engage with youth in a positive, non-confrontational way, helping build trust and meaningful connections in the community.

“This program allows officers to connect with young people for all the right reasons,” says Sgt. Chad Titsing of the Calgary Police Service. “By recognizing positive choices, we can encourage youth to continue making a difference in their communities while building positive relationships with law enforcement.”

This year, the Calgary Police Service, Lethbridge Police Service and Olds RCMP are joining Circle K in a co-ordinated southern Alberta campaign that highlights a shared commitment to youth engagement, crime prevention and community safety.

“Operation Freeze is about more than handing out a coupon,” says Sherry Coey, Senior Manager of Safety and Security for Western Canada, Circle K. “It creates positive interactions between youth and police, recognizes young people who are making good choices and demonstrates the impact of strong community partnerships.”

Circle K continues its long-standing support of the program by providing complimentary Froster coupons for officers to distribute throughout participating communities.

Operation Freeze is founded on a simple idea: recognizing positive behaviour can inspire others to do the same. By celebrating safe, responsible and community-minded actions, the program encourages young people to take pride in helping create safer, stronger communities.

The Calgary Police Service, Lethbridge Police Service and Olds RCMP thank Circle K for its ongoing commitment to youth engagement across southern Alberta. Together, the partners aim to celebrate positive youth contributions and strengthen the relationships that help communities thrive.
