CALGARY: The Jammu Kashmir Community Canada organized a peaceful demonstration outside Calgary City Hall, bringing together members of the Kashmiri community to express solidarity with people in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and to draw attention to ongoing public protests and demands for fundamental rights, essential services and a peaceful resolution to the issues facing the region.
The demonstration provided an opportunity for members of the Kashmiri diaspora in Calgary to voice their concerns about developments in Kashmir and to express support for people participating in peaceful public demonstrations in different parts of the region.
Participants raised concerns about the situation facing ordinary residents and called for greater attention to their demands. They emphasized the importance of peace, public safety, access to essential services and respect for fundamental rights.
A significant part of the demonstration focused on the ongoing public movement in Rawalakot. Participants expressed solidarity with the people involved in the protests and praised what they described as their continued efforts to raise public concerns through peaceful means.
The protesters said that the concerns being raised by people in Pakistan-administered Kashmir should be addressed through dialogue and democratic processes. They called on authorities to listen to public representatives and work toward solutions that can reduce tensions and address the difficulties experienced by ordinary citizens.
Among the issues highlighted during the Calgary demonstration were access to basic necessities and communication services. Participants called for an end to what organizers described as disruptions to internet services and the availability of food and other essential commodities.
They stressed that access to communication and basic necessities is particularly important during periods of public unrest because restrictions can make it difficult for families to remain connected and for communities to receive timely information.
The demonstrators also called for the withdrawal of Pakistani security forces from the region, presenting the demand as part of their broader call for greater civilian rights and a peaceful resolution to the current situation.
The event concluded with the presentation of a joint resolution on behalf of the Jammu Kashmir Community Canada. The resolution outlined a number of concerns and demands related to the situation in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The resolution called for the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people to be protected and for public grievances to be addressed. It also called for practical measures to resolve ongoing problems and establish lasting peace in the region.
Special attention was given to the families of people who lost their lives during the recent events. The resolution expressed solidarity with the affected families and reaffirmed the community’s commitment to standing with them.
Participants said that families affected by the loss of loved ones should not be left alone during a period of political and social uncertainty. They called for their concerns to be recognized and for their voices to be included in discussions concerning the future of the region.
The Calgary gathering also included an appeal to the international community. Participants urged international governments and organizations to take notice of developments in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and to support efforts aimed at protecting human rights and fundamental civil liberties.
The protesters called for the international community to encourage peaceful dialogue and contribute to efforts aimed at resolving public grievances. They said that international attention could help ensure that the concerns of ordinary citizens are not overlooked.
The demonstration reflected the continuing involvement of the Kashmiri diaspora in Canada in issues concerning their homeland. Calgary has a diverse South Asian and Kashmiri community, and community organizations have frequently used public gatherings to raise awareness about political, social and humanitarian developments in the region.
For the participants, the Calgary demonstration was also a way of maintaining a connection with people living in Kashmir and communicating their concerns from Canada.
Several participants emphasized that their advocacy would remain peaceful and democratic. They said that community members would continue to use lawful public gatherings, awareness campaigns and other democratic avenues to raise their concerns.
The organizers also emphasized the importance of avoiding further escalation and finding peaceful solutions to the issues confronting the people of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The calls made during the demonstration included demands for peace and stability, protection of fundamental rights, access to basic necessities, restoration of uninterrupted communication services and meaningful engagement with people raising public grievances.
The protesters also called for the concerns of communities in Rawalakot and other parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir to be taken seriously. They maintained that a lasting solution would require dialogue and attention to the social and economic issues affecting ordinary people.
The event outside Calgary City Hall ended with participants reaffirming their support for the basic rights and legitimate demands of the Kashmiri people. They said they would continue to raise awareness about developments in Kashmir while pursuing their advocacy through peaceful and democratic means.
The demonstration served as a platform for members of the Kashmiri community in Calgary to express solidarity with people in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and to call attention to issues they consider important to the region’s future.
The community’s joint resolution concluded with a broader call for peace, fundamental rights, public services and a peaceful resolution to the ongoing situation. Participants said their objective was to ensure that the concerns of Kashmiri civilians continue to receive attention both within the community and internationally.
As the situation in Pakistan-administered Kashmir continues to draw attention among members of the diaspora, the Calgary community has reaffirmed its intention to remain engaged through peaceful public advocacy. The organizers said their message would continue to focus on fundamental rights, civilian concerns, humanitarian issues and the need for dialogue as a means of resolving the current challenges.
