The appointment of Ibrahim Kamal as General Manager of PTV Peshawar Centre on September 20, 2024, marked a significant milestone in a professional career spanning more than three decades in Pakistan Television. Known for his technical expertise, creative vision and commitment to employee welfare, Kamal’s rise through the ranks reflects years of dedicated service to the national broadcaster.

Ibrahim Kamal joined Pakistan Television in 1993 as an Associate Engineer. From the beginning of his career, he demonstrated exceptional technical abilities and a strong commitment to maintaining high broadcasting standards. His contributions to the engineering division earned him widespread recognition, and in 2001 he received the prestigious PTV National Award in Engineering, one of the organization’s highest honors for professional excellence.

After establishing himself in the engineering field, Kamal moved into television production in 2010. The transition opened a new chapter in his career and allowed him to showcase his creative talents. Over the years, he produced and supervised numerous documentaries and television projects highlighting Pakistan’s history, culture and natural heritage.

Among his most notable productions was “Ahd-e-Rabta,” a documentary series exploring the ancient Buddhist civilization that flourished in the region centuries ago. He also produced the 20-episode mega documentary series “Bon Bon Darya,” focusing on the Indus River and the communities, traditions and cultures that have developed along its banks. Another important project, “Mitti Rang Aur Khushboo,” documented traditional artisans and craftsmen whose skills are gradually disappearing in the modern era.

Kamal further expanded his documentary portfolio with “Sikandar-e-Azam, Ek Khwahish Na Tamam, Akhri Safar,” a series examining the historical routes associated with Alexander the Great in present-day Pakistan. In addition, he directed documentaries showcasing the beauty and cultural significance of Kalash, Swat, Kumrat, Laram Top and several other destinations. He also produced projects for the Frontier Constabulary and contributed to both Urdu and Pashto drama productions.

His contributions extended beyond production and management. For many years, Ibrahim Kamal remained actively involved in employee representation and earned a reputation as a respected union leader. Colleagues recall that he consistently worked for the welfare of all employees regardless of their affiliations, opinions or group loyalties. Whether individuals supported him or opposed him, Kamal was known for addressing their concerns and advocating for their rights with fairness and professionalism.

This ability to build bridges across divisions within the organization earned him the respect of employees from different departments. Many staff members viewed him as a leader who prioritized institutional harmony and collective progress over personal interests or factional politics.

His appointment as General Manager of PTV Peshawar Centre was welcomed by colleagues who saw it as recognition of a career built on merit, experience and service. Bringing together expertise in engineering, production and administration, Kamal possesses a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing public broadcasting in Pakistan.

Today, as General Manager, Ibrahim Kamal continues to promote quality programming, professional development and employee welfare while strengthening PTV Peshawar Centre’s role in preserving and presenting the rich cultural heritage of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. His journey from Associate Engineer to one of the most senior leadership positions within Pakistan Television stands as an inspiring example of dedication, perseverance and public service.
