Companies funding free e-scooter and e-bike trips at select Calgary Transit stations

Calgarians will soon have an affordable way to connect to transit with free 10-minute e-scooter and e-bike trips available at select Calgary Transit stations. Bird Canada and Neuron will fund the service under new five-year permits awarded through a competitive request for proposal (RFP) process. 

The program is giving Calgarians another option to get to and from transit stations starting May 15, 2026 with e-scooters and e-bikes at the following LRT stations:  

Bird Canada:  

• Heritage
• Southland
• 45th Street
• Crowfoot

Neuron:  

• Barlow/Max Bell
• Franklin
• Rundle
• Saddletowne 

The program is an extension of a 2023 pilot where a similar service was offered at three LRT stations over a four-month period.  

“The pilot customer survey data suggested that more than 70 per cent of users reported that having free e-scooters and e-bikes at the station increased their use of Calgary Transit, and that it saved time and increased the convenience of using transit,” says Andrew Sedor, Mobility Initiatives Leader, The City of Calgary. 

As part of the new program, dedicated e-scooter and e-bike parking spaces are located at the selected stations to decrease clutter and to make it easy for transit customers to pick up and drop off the shared mobility devices. 

“We learned from the pilot that customers needed dedicated spaces at the stations to pick up and drop off the devices. We want to avoid any e-bikes or e-scooters blocking pedestrian paths or Transit operations,” says Sedor. 

To access the 10-minute free trip, customers need to use the company’s app to start and stop their ride.  After the free 10 minutes, regular fees apply.  

Bird Canada and Neuron will review e-scooters and e-bikes end-of-trip photos to ensure sidewalks or wheelchair ramps are not blocked. This helps keep sidewalks and pathways clear and accessible for everyone.
