Calgary’s Muslim community, civic leaders and interfaith representatives are expected to gather at Calgary City Hall on May 25, 2026, for a special Eid al-Adha celebration focused on unity, compassion and community reflection. The invitation-only event is jointly hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Calgary and Calgary City Councillor Raj Dhaliwal through the “Forward Together” community initiative.

The evening program will begin at 5:30 p.m., with guests arriving earlier for networking and community interaction, while a formal dinner will follow later in the evening. Organizers say the gathering is intended to celebrate the spirit of Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant occasions in Islam, commemorating sacrifice, devotion, generosity and compassion.

Community members from diverse backgrounds, including representatives from faith groups, cultural organizations and local leadership circles, are expected to attend the celebration at City Hall. The event aims to promote understanding and strengthen relationships among Calgary’s multicultural communities at a time when interfaith cooperation and dialogue continue to play an important role in civic life.

The celebration is being organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Calgary, a community widely recognized for its humanitarian efforts, peace initiatives and interfaith outreach activities across Canada and internationally. Councillor Raj Dhaliwal’s participation through the Forward Together initiative reflects ongoing efforts to support cultural inclusivity and community engagement within Calgary.

Organizers say Eid al-Adha carries a universal message that extends beyond religious boundaries. The occasion highlights values of sacrifice, kindness, gratitude and helping those in need, principles that resonate with people from many cultures and faith traditions. Speakers at the gathering are expected to reflect on these themes while encouraging unity and cooperation among communities.

The evening is also expected to recognize the contributions of Muslim Canadians to Calgary’s social, cultural and economic development. Community leaders believe events of this nature help create stronger relationships between residents and public institutions while providing opportunities for meaningful dialogue between different communities.

In recent years, Calgary has witnessed increasing participation of elected officials and multicultural organizations in celebrations connected to major religious and cultural events. Supporters say these gatherings demonstrate the city’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and help foster an atmosphere of mutual respect among residents of different backgrounds.

Guests attending the Eid celebration are expected to take part in discussions centered on compassion, community service and shared human values. Organizers hope the event will serve as a reminder that despite differences in culture or faith, communities can come together through common principles of respect, understanding and collective responsibility.

The evening at Calgary City Hall is expected to conclude with a community dinner, providing attendees with an opportunity to continue conversations and strengthen connections in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
