At around 2:00pm fire crews responded the 0-100 block of Mike Ralph Way SW for a structure fire. Crews arrived at a two-story residential home with a front attached garage with large flames coming from the garage area. There were two vehicles on the driveway on fire as flames were also rapidly spreading up the front exterior of the home and into the second floor. Firefighters quickly stretched hose lines and began knocking back the fire as other firefighters made entry to the home for an interior fire attack and search for occupants. Crews reported encountering zero visibility and heavy smoke conditions throughout the second floor. The fire had spread to the attic space and roof area. There were no occupants found inside and no injuries were reported.
A ladder truck water tower was set up as fire crews shifted tactics to apply large volume water from the exterior. Once the fire was sufficiently knocked down, firefighters re-entered the home to extinguish remaining hot spots.
The source home sustained heavy damage, and the occupants will be displaced. The two neighbouring homes are being assessed for heat damage.
Calgary Police Services, Emergency Health Services Alberta, ATCO Gas and Enmax all attended the scene.
A fire investigator is on scene and has begun their investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. A fire watch crew is also on scene to monitor conditions.
