A basement fire at a southeast Calgary home has forced two adults and nine children out of their residence, according to local fire officials.
Emergency crews from the Calgary Fire Department responded to the incident at a duplex located on Pennsburg Way S.E. shortly before 2 p.m. on Monday.
Fire Contained in Kitchen Area
Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the basement unit of the single-storey duplex. Crews quickly entered the home and located the source of the fire in the kitchen, successfully extinguishing the blaze.
Home Deemed Uninhabitable
Officials confirmed that the affected basement unit, home to two adults and nine children, has been deemed uninhabitable due to damage caused by the fire.
Residents living in the adjoining unit of the duplex were not directly impacted and have been allowed to return to their home.
No Injuries Reported
According to fire officials, all occupants managed to safely exit the building before emergency crews arrived. No injuries were reported.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the cause of the fire.
