A special event celebrating Pakistan’s culture, heritage and bilateral relations with Canada was hosted at the Senate of Canada in Ottawa by Salma Ataullahjan as part of Canada’s Asian Heritage Month celebrations.

The gathering, held inside the historic Senators Chamber, brought together nearly 80 guests including Senators, Members of Parliament, Canadian dignitaries, diplomats, representatives of the Pakistani Canadian community and members of the media.

Pakistan’s High Commission in Canada participated in the event by presenting promotional material and a documentary showcasing Pakistan’s cultural heritage, tourism potential, traditional arts, adventure sports and cuisine. Guests were introduced to various aspects of Pakistan’s history and cultural diversity through visual presentations and informational exhibits.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Canada, Muhammad Saleem, thanked Senator Salma Ataullahjan for organizing the event at one of Canada’s most prestigious parliamentary venues. He described the initiative as an important step in promoting stronger people-to-people connections and enhancing mutual understanding between Pakistan and Canada.

During his address, the High Commissioner emphasized the importance of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries through existing parliamentary friendship groups. He noted that stronger engagement between lawmakers could further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations.

He also highlighted the growing opportunities for increased cooperation in trade, investment and tourism, saying both countries could benefit from deeper economic partnerships and expanded cultural exchanges.

Attendees appreciated the cultural presentations and the opportunity to learn more about Pakistan’s traditions, tourism destinations and contributions of the Pakistani Canadian community to Canadian society.

The event concluded with discussions and networking among parliamentarians, diplomats and community leaders, reflecting continued efforts to strengthen Pakistan-Canada relations through cultural diplomacy and community engagement.
