Saife Hassan to Meet Calgary Audience at Special Evening with Sara’s Cuisine

CALGARY: Pakistani television and theatre actor and director Saife Hassan is set to meet audiences in Calgary on August 31 in an exclusive evening being hosted by Sara’s Cuisine, offering admirers an opportunity to meet one of Pakistan’s respected names in acting and television direction.

The event will begin at 7:00 p.m., with tickets priced at $50 per person. Saife Hassan has built a distinguished career spanning theatre, television and film. His journey in the performing arts began in 1997 with Tehrik-e-Niswan, one of Pakistan’s prominent theatre groups. During his early years, he performed in theatre productions and participated in prestigious theatre festivals in Pakistan and internationally. His theatre background became an important foundation for his later work as a television actor and director.

Over the years, Hassan developed a reputation not only as a performer but also as a director capable of bringing complex characters and socially relevant stories to the screen. His directorial work includes several acclaimed Pakistani television productions. Among his notable works are Bari Aapa, Sang-e-Mar Mar, Sammi, Belapur Ki Dayan, Ehd-e-Wafa, Sang-e-Mah, Tanaa Banaa, Zard Patton Ka Bunn and Tan Man Neelo Neel.

His drama Bari Aapa, directed by Hassan and written by Samira Fazal, became a notable family drama on Hum TV and featured an ensemble cast including Savera Nadeem, Nauman Ijaz and Ayesha Khan.

Hassan subsequently gained further recognition for Sang-e-Mar Mar, a drama noted for its powerful characters and depiction of tribal traditions and social issues. His direction earned him the Best Director award at the Lux Style Awards, adding a major honour to his growing career. The Karachi Literature Festival also lists Victoria Ka Ticket, Achchay Mian, Bari Aapa, Sang-e-Mar Mar, Sammi and Belapur Ki Dayan among his memorable directorial works.

His work continued with Ehd-e-Wafa, a widely popular drama that brought together themes of friendship, loyalty, family and national service. He later directed Sang-e-Mah, the second part of the Sang-e-Mar Mar trilogy. The drama, written by Mustafa Afridi, drew inspiration from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and starred prominent Pakistani actors.

Hassan has also remained active in front of the camera. His acting credits include appearances in productions such as Dil Ki Madham Boliyan, Ehd-e-Wafa, Insha’Allah, Actor in Law, Superstar, Dum Mastam, Parde Mein Rehne Do, Muqaddar and other television and film projects. His ability to move between acting and directing has made him a distinctive figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry.

Beyond mainstream television, Hassan has maintained a strong connection with theatre and literary performance. He is a founding member and lead performer of Zambeel Dramatic Readings, a platform devoted to dramatic readings and performance. His long association with theatre has continued to influence his approach to acting and storytelling.

His career also reflects a transition from the intimate world of Pakistani theatre to large-scale television productions. In an interview with Dawn, Hassan recalled his theatre years and the demanding process of rehearsing stage productions, while explaining how changing budgets and opportunities eventually led him to concentrate more heavily on television direction.
