Canadians Invited to Name Three New Spruce Meadows Foals in Annual Contest

Horse lovers across Canada have the opportunity to help name three of Spruce Meadows’ newest foals as the popular annual Name the Foal contest returns for 2026, offering participants the chance to win an exclusive prize package for one of the country’s premier equestrian events.

The annual contest invites members of the public to submit creative names for three young female foals born earlier this spring as part of the renowned Spruce Meadows breeding program. The initiative has become a favourite tradition among equestrian enthusiasts, allowing Canadians to play a small part in the future of promising young horses.

Each of the three foals has its own unique personality and will continue developing within Spruce Meadows’ internationally recognized breeding program before beginning its journey in the competitive equestrian world.

Participants must follow one important naming rule. Each foal’s name must begin with the same first letter as its sire’s name. The first foal, born on April 20, requires a name beginning with the letter “I.” The second foal, which arrived on April 29, needs a name starting with “S,” while the third foal, born on May 19, must receive a name beginning with “G.”

Contest organizers encourage creative and meaningful suggestions that fit the naming guidelines while reflecting each foal’s character and future potential.

In addition to the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on Spruce Meadows’ breeding program, participants also have the chance to win an attractive prize package connected to the prestigious Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament.
