One of Calgary’s longest running and most popular community celebrations is set to return this August as the annual Marda Gras Street Festival transforms the heart of Marda Loop into a lively, vehicle free destination filled with entertainment, shopping and family activities.

Now celebrating its 41st year, the festival has become a cherished summer tradition that attracts thousands of residents and visitors from across the city. The event showcases the vibrant spirit of the Marda Loop community while highlighting local businesses, artists, performers and food vendors.

This year’s festival will take over 33 Avenue Southwest, where visitors can spend the day exploring more than 250 vendor booths offering handcrafted products, artwork, clothing, specialty goods and locally made items. The event also provides an opportunity for small businesses and community organizations to connect with festival goers in one of Calgary’s busiest neighbourhoods.

Live entertainment will be featured throughout the day across four performance stages. The lineup includes local musicians, dance groups and community performers representing a wide range of artistic styles. Organizers have also introduced a dedicated stage within the Kids Quarter, offering additional family friendly entertainment designed for younger visitors.

Families attending the festival can enjoy a variety of activities suitable for all ages, making the event one of Calgary’s premier summer attractions. Among the most anticipated traditions is the popular pet pageant, where local pet owners showcase their four legged companions in a fun community celebration that has become a favourite annual attraction.

Food lovers will also have plenty of choices, with numerous vendors serving a diverse selection of local cuisine, snacks and refreshments throughout the festival grounds.

Organizers say the event continues to celebrate everything that makes Marda Loop a unique Calgary destination by encouraging residents to shop locally, support neighbourhood businesses and enjoy a welcoming community atmosphere.

The annual street festival has grown significantly since its early years and now ranks among Calgary’s largest outdoor community events. Beyond its entertainment value, Marda Gras also plays an important role in promoting local entrepreneurship and strengthening community connections by bringing together residents, visitors and businesses for a full day of celebration.

With free admission and activities designed for every age group, this year’s festival is expected to once again attract large crowds eager to experience one of Calgary’s signature summer traditions. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the full schedule of performances, explore the extensive marketplace and take advantage of everything the vibrant Marda Loop neighbourhood has to offer.
