Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo has been arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence following a traffic stop in Wisconsin.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Romo was stopped while driving southbound on Interstate 43 on Thursday. Authorities said he performed poorly during field sobriety tests conducted at the scene before being taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office stated that Romo was booked and later released. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21 to face the charge.
Romo, 46, has strong ties to Wisconsin, having attended high school in Burlington, located about 35 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
Following his retirement from professional football, Romo joined CBS Sports in 2017 as the network’s lead NFL game analyst. He quickly became one of the most recognizable television voices covering the league after concluding a successful playing career with the Dallas Cowboys.
Romo spent his entire NFL career with Dallas from 2004 to 2016, earning four Pro Bowl selections and establishing himself as one of the franchise’s most accomplished quarterbacks. He remains the Cowboys’ all-time leader in career touchdown passes with 248.
For several years, Romo also held the franchise record for career passing yards with 34,183 before quarterback Dak Prescott surpassed that mark last season.
CBS Sports has not issued any public comment regarding Romo’s arrest.
The case will now proceed through the legal process, with Romo expected to make his first court appearance later this year. Authorities have not released additional details about the incident, and the allegations remain before the court.
