We have charged a man in connection with operating a stolen vehicle and evading police while wanted on 21 warrants, including one for removing his electronic monitoring bracelet.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the Auto Theft Team located a stolen 2012 Toyota Corolla in the northwest community of Capitol Hill. Officers monitored the vehicle, and on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at about 8:50 p.m., a man was observed parking the stolen Corolla inside a garage at a residence in the northwest community of Hawkwood.

Officers contained the residence and took the suspect into custody. Later that evening, a search warrant was executed at the home, leading officers to recover the stolen Corolla, keys and the original licence plate.

As a result, Dustin Andrew SKLEREK, 39, of Calgary, is charged with:

  • One count of possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • One count of possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • One count of driving while prohibited
  • One count of fraudulent concealment
  • 10 counts of failure to comply with a release order
  • One count for driving an uninsured vehicle
  • One count for failure to stop at a red light
  • 21 outstanding warrants

SKLEREK appeared in court today, Monday, July 6, 2026.

“Auto theft investigations often uncover broader criminal activity, and this case is a clear example. By locating the stolen vehicle and taking this individual into custody, we prevented a repeat offender who had removed his court‑ordered monitoring device from continuing to victimize Calgarians. This intelligence‑driven work reflects the purpose of the Auto Theft Team, which is to stop high‑risk offenders and prevent further victimization in our community.”

About the Auto Theft Team

The Calgary Police Service Auto Theft Team (ATT) is a dedicated resource within our Offender Management Unit that specifically targets offenders believed to be involved in auto thefts in Calgary. Through this enforcement work, the ATT uses intelligence, previous crime data, and offender histories to prioritize auto theft offenders causing the most harm.

As an offender management tool, the ATT works closely with other Offender Management Unit resources, including the Prolific Offender Engagement Team (POET), to share information and monitor high-risk offenders with court-imposed conditions.
