The Carolina Hurricanes will take on the Montreal Canadiens in the 2026 NHL Eastern Conference Final after both teams emerged victorious in dramatic second-round playoff series.

Carolina advanced after sweeping the Philadelphia Flyers, capping the series with a 3-2 overtime win in Game 4. Montreal booked its place in the conference final by defeating the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 in overtime in Game 7.

Game 1 Scheduled in Raleigh

The Hurricanes, the top seed in the Eastern Conference, will host Game 1 of the best-of-seven series in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Thursday night.

Carolina enters the series with a perfect 8-0 postseason record, becoming the first NHL team since the 1985 Edmonton Oilers to open the playoffs with eight consecutive victories.

Hurricanes Dominating at Both Ends

The Hurricanes have allowed just 10 goals in eight playoff games, showcasing one of the most dominant defensive performances in recent postseason history.

Taylor Hall leads Carolina in scoring with 12 points, while Logan Stankoven has scored seven goals.

In net, Frederik Andersen has been outstanding, posting an 8-0 record with a 1.12 goals-against average, a .950 save percentage, and two shutouts.

Canadiens Riding Momentum After Two Game 7 Victories

Montreal has taken a more difficult path to the conference final, surviving two seven-game series against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Buffalo.

Rookie defenseman Lane Hutson leads the Canadiens with 14 playoff points, while captain Nick Suzuki has contributed 13 points.

Forward Alex Newhook has scored seven goals, including the overtime winner in Game 7 against Buffalo.

Goaltender Jakub Dobes has started every playoff game for Montreal and has delivered several crucial performances.

Canadiens Won Regular-Season Series

Montreal swept all three regular-season meetings against Carolina, outscoring the Hurricanes 15-8.

Cole Caufield, Suzuki, and Juraj Slafkovsky each played key roles in those victories.

Playoff History Favors Carolina

This will be the third postseason meeting between the two franchises. Carolina won both previous playoff matchups, including a six-game series during the 2006 playoffs.

High Stakes as Four Teams Remain

With a berth in the Stanley Cup Final on the line, the Eastern Conference Final pits Carolina’s dominant, rested roster against a Montreal team battle-tested by two grueling series.

The matchup promises elite goaltending, young stars, and one of the most compelling series of the 2026 NHL playoffs.
