A tragic and disturbing discovery has prompted a homicide investigation after two young children were found dead inside a vehicle in northwest Calgary.
According to the Calgary Police Service, officers responded to a call just after 10 a.m. on Thursday to the 4300 block of 14th Street N.W. Upon arrival, police located a vehicle where the bodies of two children, believed to be under the age of 10, were discovered.
Authorities have described the deaths as suspicious, leading the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit to take over the case. One individual has been taken into custody, though details about their identity or potential charges have not yet been released.
Investigators are currently working to identify the children and determine their family connections as part of the ongoing probe.
Police officials have reassured the public that there is no ongoing risk to community safety. However, the incident has deeply affected officers and first responders involved at the scene.
“This is an incredibly difficult situation,” said Darren Smith, noting the emotional toll such cases take on law enforcement personnel.
A large police presence remained in the area for several hours as investigators gathered evidence, with sections of 14th Street temporarily closed and traffic diverted around the scene.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
