Sarb Akal Music Society of Calgary to celebrate World Dance Day

A major cultural and artistic collaboration between India and Canada is set to take center stage as Punjabi University, Patiala, through its Department of Youth Welfare, joins hands with Sarb Akal Music Society of Calgary to celebrate World Dance Day with a grand event highlighting classical dance and music traditions.

The event, scheduled for April 29, 2026 (Wednesday) at 6:00 PM, will take place at Kala Bhawan, Punjabi University, Patiala. This international collaboration reflects the growing cultural bridge between India and the Canadian Punjabi diaspora, especially through organizations dedicated to preserving classical arts. The Sarb Akal Music Society, founded in 2014 in Calgary, has been actively promoting Indian classical music globally and engaging youth through artistic platforms.

The highlight of the evening will be the presence of renowned Kathak exponent and senior guru Geetanjali Lal, a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, who will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Known for her contribution to Indian classical dance, her participation adds significant prestige to the celebration.

The event will be presided over by Prof. Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, reflecting the institution’s commitment to cultural enrichment and youth engagement.

Among the distinguished guests, Prof. Daisy Walia will attend as Guest of Honour, while several respected personalities will join as Special Guests including Prof. Indira Bali, Dr. Manmohan Sharma, Dr. Jiwan Bala, and Dr. Jagmohan Sharma.

Representing the Sarb Akal Music Society’s Indian chapter, S. Ranjeet Singh and Dr. Ramandeep Kaur will also be present, symbolizing the organization’s expanding international footprint.

The program will feature a rich lineup of performing artists, showcasing both emerging and established talent. Among them are Vidyagauri, Dr. Arsdeep Bhatti, Asawari Singh, and Jasmine with her group representing Sangeet Natya traditions. Their performances are expected to bring diversity and vibrancy to the stage, celebrating the essence of World Dance Day through classical and contemporary interpretations.

The event is being organized under the leadership of Harjeet Singh, who is also the founder of the Sarb Akal Music Society. Under his guidance, the organization has grown into a global platform promoting Indian classical music and cultural exchange, connecting artists across continents and nurturing young talent.

The Department of Youth Welfare team, led by Prof. Bhiminder Singh (Director), along with staff members, has extended a warm invitation to all art lovers, students, and the general public to attend the event and celebrate the universal language of dance.
